In a world where technology takes leaps and bounds on a regular basis it is crucial to stay abreast of developments in the tools and software available to translation professionals.

The Association of Translation Companies (ATC), an established professional body representing the interests of translation companies, hosts a conference once a year where industry professionals and language service providers alike can gather to discuss industry developments and to build on networking opportunities. On Friday 23rd September, the 2011 conference was held at the School of Oriental & African Studies in London for an all-day event featuring presentations, talks, workshops and an exhibition.

Rosetta Translation, a leading language service provider based in the UK and China, sent Manchandan Sumray, Head of Marketing and Business Development as their delegate to this year’s forum.

Attending such gatherings of like-minded people is important for a translation company so as to forge new relationships and to stay ahead of the game in terms of developments in industry news and issues such as translation technology. The theme of the 2011 conference was ‘Inspiring the language business-driving quality, building value, making profits’.

“It was a really worthwhile day and I got a lot out of it, both on a personal level and in a professional capacity” says Miss Sumray, who also attended last year’s event. “The day started with an opening address from the ATC’s Chairman, Roy Alkin, who welcomed all of the 100 or so delegates and introduced the speakers for the day. All of the speakers had valid and interesting contributions, but I found the talks regarding the subjects of Machine Translation, Translation Memory, and adapting the translation product to the different types of end consumer, to be most relevant to our company” she continues.

“In a world where technology takes leaps and bounds on a regular basis it is crucial to stay abreast of developments in the tools and software available to translation professionals. With the aim of creating a high quality and reliable end product tailored for each and every client, technology is definitely the way forward. It is just a case of being able to harness the potential of these developments in order for them to work efficiently and effectively for our business. The theme of this meeting was definitely a pertinent one in the eyes of Rosetta Translation. I will take away a lot of valuable insight from talks and workshops, and hope to be able to implement some improvements to both drive forward the quality of service we provide, to increase value for our new and existing clients and ultimately to make a profit to succeed as a business ”she concludes.
