Robert Korwin DMD PA,Advanced Dentistry with a Gentle Touch, http://www.drkorwin.com serving New Jersey with esthetic comprehensive dental care for three decades, is now giving each patient with a dental cleaning in October a ‘Give Hope Pink Pack’, and is donating matching funds to the National Breast Cancer Foundation to promote early detection and prevention of breast cancer with better oral health.

Studies show that many people have lifetime gum problems which can contribute to serious health issues. A recent study conducted at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, published in ‘Breast Cancer Research Treatment’ found that women with gum disease which had advanced to the stage of losing teeth had an eleven fold greater incidence of breast cancer.

Other scientific studies have also shown dramatic increases in cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis, elevated cholesterol, Alzheimer’s, type 2 diabetes, stroke, rheumatoid arthritis, (COPD) and pneumonia when gum disease is present. “The byproducts of oral inflammation enter the bloodstream and can create problems at distant sites. Inflammation may enhance cellular proliferation and mutagenesis, allowing for the development and spread of cancer." says James Burke Fine, DMD Division of Periodontics, Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in the Compendium Of Continuing Education In Dentistry article August 2010 “Periodontitis and Cancer...A Link?”

The good news is that daily flossing, along with regular professional cleanings protects health and prevents gum disease. For more information about flossing, health, and keeping teeth for a lifetime, visit http://www.flossingforlife.com.

To promote the importance of early detection in the fight against breast cancer, our office has joined the campaign by giving each patient who has our thorough professional dental cleaning a Give Hope Pink Pack featuring a specially imprinted toothbrush with a Give Hope logo, and extra soft Comfort Clean bristles that are easy on sensitive gums, floss and toothpaste. For every Give Hope Pink Pack we give out, Crest Oral B will donate funds to the National Breast Cancer Foundation to promote early detection, and in addition, our office will donate matching funds for each pack as well.

Together we can share the gift of early detection and early prevention. Make an appointment for a cleaning, an exam and some flossing coaching today.

More evidence is being published about the correlation between periodontal inflammation and systemic disease, and it is highly important to bring this information to the public. We have a long record of interceptive and preventive oral health care and we are pleased to help control and prevent oral disease.
