In the new book, “If I Knew Then What I Know Now: Time to Stop Recycling the Same Old Mistakes, Life Lessons to Last More Than a Lifetime” (published by WestBow Press) Ruby Hillsman writes about lessons that were learned from people who wished they had made better choices or different choices over their lifetime. Hillsman lists a number of regrets she often heard from the people she met during her childhood, teaching, nursing and business careers.

“It’s simple for people to avoid everyday problems that are experienced by those taking the time to listen to individuals who voice regrets from their past,” says Hillsman.

Excerpt from “If I Knew Then What I Know Now”:

Over the years, I discovered that many go through some devastation or trauma or have some cross to bear […] Whatever the devastation, trauma, or loss experienced, I found that no matter the size of the wounds they leave, we determine the size of the scar that is left behind. It is almost as though we have an inherent duty within to discover the reasons behind the traumas, accept them, overcome the effects of them, learn from them, and then pass the experience along to someone when the need arises.

Readers of “If I Knew Then What I Know Now” will see the simplicity and importance of seeking good advice from credible people with varied experiences. They will not only find sensible lessons learned by the author, but also gain enlightenment and see other meaningful lessons within the short stories. After each entry is an easy-to-follow list of the lessons that each person learned.
