Mr. Rishi Jaitly, one of Detroit's “40 under 40” winners, will join Dr. Katherin Loflin to discuss Detroit's renaissance on the Place Matters show Thursday October 13, 2011. Three years ago, as the big three automakers stumbled, Detroit hit bottom by almost every measure. Today, it is a city on the rebound and is showing how communities react “on the way up.” Dr. Loflin and Mr. Jaitly will discuss and disect placemaking strategies and opportunities being used by planners, foundations and elected leaders to turn around the city and discuss how it translating to early evidence of its upward trajectory.

Rishi S. Jaitly directs Knight’s investment of millions of grant making dollars annually in Detroit. Just this week, Mr. Jaitly was named one of Detroit's “40 under 40” by Crain's Detroit Business. The award recognizes “the best and brightest in Southeast Michigan who have made their marks in business before age 40.” Jaitly co-founded and led Michigan Corps, a social network of Michiganders committed to change in their home state. He continues to be the volunteer chairman of the board. He also was head of government affairs and public-private partnerships for Google in South Asia; he began his tenure with the company in Silicon Valley where he supported communications for Google’s CEO and led Google.org’s product partnerships with the United Nations.
