Guardian Executive Chairman to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

The Round Table of New York, the nation’s most prestigious organization of insurance field leaders, announced today that it will present esteemed financial services industry leader Dennis J. Manning, CLU®, ChFC®, Executive Chairman of The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America (Guardian), with its Lifetime Achievement Award at its annual black tie dinner on December 5, 2011.

The Round Table of New York, the nation’s most prestigious organization of insurance field leaders, announced today that it will present esteemed financial services industry leader Dennis J. Manning, CLU®, ChFC®, Executive Chairman of The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America(Guardian), with its Lifetime Achievement Award at its annual black tie dinner this December.

The Round Table of New York presents its Lifetime Achievement Award each year to an individual that has made significant contributions to the insurance and financial services industry. The award recognizes individuals for their accomplishments in the areas of professional ethics, education and industry leadership.

Past industry luminaries that have received this prestigious award include: Sy Sternberg, CLU®, Chairman of the Board, New York Life Insurance Company (2008), Thomas E. Workman, President and CEO of the Life Insurance Council of New York, Inc. (2009), and Larry Barton, Ph.D., CAP®, President and Chief Executive Officer of The American College (2010).

“Dennis led Guardian during a period of significant challenges and the company has emerged as one of the strongest financial organizations in the country,” continued Rosbruch. “He is active in his community and passionate on the subject of leadership.”

Manning began his career with Guardian in 1983 as a General Agent in Houston, Texas, where his agency quickly became one of Guardian’s leading field sales offices. In 1991, he joined the Guardian home office as Vice President. Manning returned to the field in 1994 as a General Agent in the company’s White Plains, New York, agency. In 1996, he returned to the home office as a Senior Vice President.

Manning was later promoted to Executive Vice President for Individual Markets & Group Pensions, and in 2001 became Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer. He was soon again promoted, and assumed the President & Chief Operating Officer role in 2002 and was elected to the Guardian Board of Directors. He was then named President and Chief Executive Officer and served in that role from 2003 until November, 2010, when he was named Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Manning has been Executive Chairman of Guardian since July 1, 2011 and is currently a member of the Guardian Board of Directors. He formerly was Chairman of the Board of RS Investment Management Co, LLC, and was a Trustee on the Board of Trustees for RS Investment Trust and RS Variable Products Trust.

Manning is a graduate of Notre Dame University where he received his degree in
Business Administration, served with the United States Army in Vietnam, and is active in many industry and civic organizations.

He is a past Chairman of the Life Insurance Council of New York, Inc. (LICONY) and a former Board member of the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI). Manning was Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Forman School in Litchfield, Connecticut, and a former member of The Hundred Year Association Board of Directors. He currently serves on the Board of Governors of the Leader to Leader Institute in New York City and is a member of the Project HOPE Board of Directors.

Manning and his wife Kathy have three children and reside in Stamford, Connecticut.

Established in 1919, the Round Table of New York was initially organized by 28 General Agents and Managers representing 22 life insurance companies.
