Portland, OR (PRWEB) October 11, 2011
Avatron® Software, a leading developer of productivity apps for the Apple iOS platform, today welcomed former Apple iWork engineer Kurt Revis to its app development team. As senior software engineer at Avatron, Revis will serve as a technical lead on the Avatron app innovation pipeline, building functionality for new iPhone, iPod touch and iPad apps and implementing continuous improvement upgrades for the company’s existing product suite.
Revis is the newest addition to the eight-member Avatron engineering team that boasts a collective dossier averaging 19 years of deep programming experience at industry bellwethers Apple, IBM, Intel and Tektronix. In his new role at Avatron, Revis is reuniting with several Apple alumni. He will work closely with former iWork cohort and current Avatron Chief Technology Officer Steven Woolgar, who spent 12 years as a key engineer at Apple, working on productivity apps such as ClarisWorks, AppleWorks and iWork.
Avatron CEO Dave Howell is also an Apple alumnus who leveraged his 20 years of programming experience, including a stint as a senior software manager at Apple’s Cupertino and Vancouver offices, along with a Cornell-Queens Executive MBA to launch his own app shop in 2008. Since then, Avatron’s Air Sharing file storage app has seen more than 1 million downloads through iTunes. And, its Air Display, which turns any iPad, iPod touch or Mac computer into a second computer monitor, has been called one of the best apps for business and personal use by numerous tech industry publications.
“It’s definitely great to be working with Kurt once again and our entire team is excited about the vision and technological skills he brings to the table,” Howell said. “Kurt’s intimate knowledge of the iOS platform and interface from a productivity perspective give us a distinct advantage at producing both functional and fun-to-use apps optimized for the iPhone/iPad environment and the Apple user experience.”
With more than 15 years of experience in developing iOS and Mac apps, Revis spent the last seven years of his career in Apple’s iWork group, where he designed, implemented and led feature development on the company’s Keynote, Pages, Numbers and iWeb products for both Mac and iPad.
Prior to his work at Apple, Revis spent three years at The Omni Group as a software engineer on a variety of Mac OS X and WebObjects projects. For two years, he developed original multimedia titles for Edmark, a leading educational software company that was later sold to Riverdeep. In addition to his app development prowess, Revis is also skilled in Objective-C, Xcode, WebKit, C++, scrum and agile development.
“I’ve been very impressed with the innovative and practical apps I’ve seen coming out of the Avatron team for quite some time,” Revis said. “I’m looking forward to working with my friends and former colleagues to deliver the premiere productivity apps for the iOS platform.”
