Owl Strategic Consulting, LLC, a national and international consulting firm and the publisher of “Detecting the Scam: Nelson Mandela’s Gift” by Michael Friedlander, has announced the launch of a new program entitled: “The 10 Hidden Treasures of an Ethical Workplace and Classroom.” The program is led by Michael Friedlander, Owl Strategic Consulting’s Chairman and Founder.

When Michael was asked recently about what made this strategic management program about ethical leadership and creating ethical environments different and why he referred to the treasures of an ethical workplace and classroom as "hidden treasures," he explained:

“Most programs dealing with ethics tend to focus on how different ethical models might help solve specific ethical problems. For example, there might be a focus on a Utilitarian model, a Moral Rights model, or a Justice model. Whatever the model, however, many of these programs seek a magic bullet that will result in ethical decision-making. The approach of our program, however, is different. Our program looks at the big picture. It shows how an ethical environment and ethical leadership can not only create unexpected and extraordinary institutional benefits and results by leveraging the hidden treasures of an ethical environment, it can also help avoid risks that could be quite damaging.”

Michael goes on to explain:

“We see creating an ethical environment and developing ethical leadership as an opportunity to create a competitive advantage for businesses and schools through improved performance, productivity, innovation and morale. Our program shines a light on this opportunity and we identify 10 specific treasures that lie hidden and waiting for us in an ethical environment.”

When asked about how an ethical environment can help avoid significant risks that businesses and schools face, Michael explained how his experience in writing his recent book, Detecting the Scam: Nelson Mandela’s Gift, made him aware of the importance of ethical leadership and how we now face three significant crises that an ethical environment can help us address:

“It seems clear to me that every major financial scam we’ve recently experienced has highlighted flawed leadership and three significant crises we now face. The first is the crisis of pervasive cheating. The second is the crisis of corruption. And the third is the crisis of those who look away as those around them cheat and act corruptly. Only an ethical workplace and classroom can help us address these crises. And if we can create an ethical environment and ethical leadership, we can avert the damage these crises can cause. In the process, we will have done ourselves and those around us a huge favor.”

Finally, Michael points out that there appears to be a clear link between competitive advantage and an ethical environment. He suggests it is no coincidence that those companies that were honored in 2011 as being amongst the most ethical companies in the world by the Ethisphere Institute performed better than other companies in the S&P 500.

Owl Strategic Consulting offers strategic management consulting advice and a variety of programs and projects designed to show how the creation of ethical environments, the establishment of corporate social responsibility programs and the implementation of inspirational leadership can not only improve productivity and innovation—it can also deter white-collar crime and cheating.
