"The purpose of the ISO 50001 Energy Standard is to empower organizations to establish the systems and processes necessary to improve energy performance, energy efficiency, use, and consumption,” remarked H. Pierre Salle, President of DEKRA.

DEKRA Certification, Inc., the North American HQ of DEKRA Certification Group known as one of the world’s leading Certification Bodies, proudly announces they will present an overview of the new ISO 50001 Energy Management Standard and Best Practice Case Studies on the Department of Energy’s Superior Energy Performance (SEP) Certification program at the Enterprise ISO 50001 conference to be held on the afternoon of November 1st, 2011 at the Embassy Suites Hotel, Logan Airport, Boston, MA.
The purpose of the ISO 50001 seminar, hosted by Groom Energy of Salem, MA, is to provide an overview of the recently introduced ISO standard and the Department of Energy’s Superior Energy Performance (SEP) certification program. Presentations will be led by DEKRA, the only ANSI-accredited SEP certification body, and the certifier for all five current SEP certificates. DEKRA will cover best practices learned by certifying Dow Chemical, Freescale Semiconductor, Owens Corning and Cook Composite Polymers to the SEP standard.
ISO 50001, released in June 2011, is the first energy management standard for industrial plants and commercial organizations that need a clear and comprehensive program for developing an energy management plan.
ISO 50001 promises to help businesses:
- Reduce energy related operational costs
- Increase energy efficiency
- Demonstrate a commitment to sustainability
- Support energy conservation
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions
- Improve use of energy assets
- Refine energy procurement practices
The proper application of ISO 50001 and SEP will ensure that companies implement best energy management practices with a clear picture for future improvements. A powerful example of this comes from Dow Chemical: For Dow, a known leader in energy management, their energy efficiency efforts have resulted in a 25% reduction in energy intensity worldwide since 1994, representing over $9.48 billion in avoided fuel costs.
“The purpose of this ISO 50001 International Energy Standard is to empower organizations to establish the systems and processes necessary to improve energy performance, including energy efficiency, use, and consumption,” remarked H. Pierre Salle, President of DEKRA, “Implementation of this ISO 50001 standard is intended to lead to reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, energy cost, and other related environmental impacts, through systematic management of energy,“ he added.
