A2B Tracking Solutions Inc., the world’s largest US Department of Defense IUID program partner, was honored at a Whiteman AFB ceremony to commemorate the one millionth part to be marked and scanned under the Air Force Item Unique Identification (IUID) Part Marking Program. Under AF contract, A2B Tracking is tasked with marking 2.1 million legacy equipment items used to support day-to-day operations at every Air Force base (230) world-wide. The process also involves cleansing the data to ensure accuracy within the Air Force Equipment Management System (AFEMS). A2B President Peter Collins, Chief Operating Officer Tim Collins and Program Manager Gary Schuerfeld represented the company at the event.
For perspective, 72,000 items have been marked each month, over the past fourteen months, through the efforts of A2B’s part marking teams and supported by AF personnel and contractors. Nearly all labels and plates required for the part marking effort are manufactured by A2B and deployed to appropriate sites. The project is ahead of schedule in spite of disruptions from natural disasters including floods and the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
All Supply Class VII items, including small arms, vehicles, communication security assets and general support equipment, will be marked by March 2012. The one millionth item, a liquid service unit, was scanned into the IUID Registry by Brig Gen H. Brent Baker Sr., the Air Force Global Logistics Support Center Commander who said, “Today’s milestone represents the next step in a continuous journey to transform the Air Force’s supply chain into a premier business model. By leveraging technology the war fighter will deliver the right part, at the right time, faster than ever before.”
A2B President Peter Collins said “This milestone underscores the commitment of Air Force and the DoD to leverage technology for maximum supply chain efficiency. A2B is proud to be play a pivotal role as Air Force’s continues its trail blazing rollout of serialized item tracking and management.”
Guests who attended the ceremony from across the Air Force included host Brig Gen Vander Hamm, Commander 509th Bomb Wing, Whiteman AFB; Mr. Grover Dunn, Director of Transformation, Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, Installations and Mission Support; AF AIT Program Manager, Mr. Mark Reboulet; IUID Project Manager, Mr. Randy Koram and representatives from HAF, AF MAJCOMs and ECSS as well as Deloitte Consulting LLP and Evanhoe & Associates.
