Comprehensive Environmental Site Analysis Provides Bankable Data for PV Developers

Solar Prospector is a comprehensive, turnkey solution for PV developers who need bankable energy projections to secure project financing. Solar Prospector allows stakeholders to better understand project risks and uncertainties through improved solar resource assessment at potential PV project sites. First previewed at InterSolar 2011, Draker will showcase Solar Prospector at the upcoming Solar Power International show in Dallas, TX, October 17 – 20, 2011 (booth #100).

Solar Prospector features advanced meteorological instrumentation and a standalone data acquisition platform for capturing and recording site-specific environmental conditions including horizontal and tilted-plane irradiance, wind speed and ambient temperature. Solar Prospector is built upon a rugged stainless steel tripod that houses Draker’s state-of-the art data acquisition system, weather instrumentation and standalone power supply. Collected data is transmitted wirelessly to Draker’s remote servers and is accessed via an intuitive web interface. Solar Prospector also includes a backup power supply and redundant, on-site data storage to prevent data loss.

With Solar Prospector developers can gather and analyze actual environmental data from a prospective site, helping to reduce project risk by lowering the uncertainty of solar resource projections based on satellite data alone. Customers also have access to Draker’s extensive component library, which they can use to evaluate multiple project configurations and optimize energy projections.

To gather sufficient site data, Solar Prospector is typically deployed for a period of 12 months or more at a potential solar project site. At the end of the assessment period, Draker correlates the high-resolution ground data to long-term satellite data and reference station data to generate a site-specific energy assessment and uncertainty analysis. This investment-grade report lowers solar resource uncertainty and increases confidence in energy projections, resulting in lower cost of capital and higher ROI for developers.
