Janrain, Inc., (http://www.janrain.com) provider of the leading user management platform for the social web, announced today at the X.commerce Innovate Developer Conference that it has partnered with PayPal and X.commerce to help launch its commerce identity solution, PayPal Access. The partnership builds upon an existing relationship between Janrain and PayPal collaborating on identity services for the past two years.
PayPal Access increases customer personalization and simplifies the checkout process by enabling PayPal’s 100 million account holders to sign in at participating retailers’ sites with just their PayPal user name and password.
“The way that consumers shop and make purchases evolves every day, forcing retailers to innovate or become obsolete,” said Janrain CEO Larry Drebes. “The partnership forged between Janrain and PayPal allows merchants to keep pace with their customers by letting them use their trusted PayPal identity to login to a retail site.“
Janrain makes it easy for merchants to immediately start accepting PayPal login access through their industry leading social login service, Janrain Engage. Existing identity solutions, while effective for social interactions, do not provide the rigorous level of security, privacy or the types of data attributes that are required for mobile and social commerce. Lamps.com and Studica.com are two merchants that have already integrated the technology into the customer experience.
“PayPal is increasingly recognized as the easiest payment method by both merchants and consumers,” said Damon Hougland, general manager of identity & informatics, X.commerce. "Results from early adopters show that consumers are more willing to engage with merchants because they can use their PayPal account to check out instead of having to deal with the hassle of entering name, address and payment information. This has huge implications for mobile commerce and merchant sales among new and existing customers."
Research indicates that required registration is one of the worst culprits for friction in the check-out process. A 2008 study conducted by Forrester Research reported that 23 percent of customers abandoned the last online merchant’s store that they visited that asked them to register. Additionally, a recent study conducted by Blue, Inc. concludes that 45 percent of respondents have left a site due to a forgotten password. Through a more personalized shopping experience and a seamless, secure check-out process, customer sales are dramatically increased. Allowing consumers to use their existing login credentials and check out with a known commerce identity will fundamentally improve the shopping experience.
PayPal is the faster, safer way to pay and get paid online. With 100 million active accounts in 190 markets and 25 currencies around the world, PayPal enables global commerce. PayPal is an eBay company.
