“The demand for the printed book is strong in the German market, and the addition of hundreds of thousands of new titles through Ingram’s Global Connect program is a benefit for the entire publishing supply chain,” said Dr. Moritz Hagenmüller
Frankfurt, Germany (PRWEB) October 12, 2011
Ingram Content Group Inc. today announced the expansion of its Global Connect program through an alliance with Books On Demand (BoD), a leading digital book manufacturer in Germany with substantial retail distribution in the region.
“Ingram’s Global Connect relationship with Books On Demand will make more content available throughout the world,” said David “Skip” Prichard, President and CEO, Ingram Content Group Inc. “We look forward to working with the market leader for digital print distribution in Germany and to bringing German content to our growing worldwide service.”
Mr. Prichard continued, “In today’s increasingly global marketplace, solutions like Global Connect are required to meet the supply chain shift and to connect publishers to the book trade, and ultimately to readers.”
The Global Connect program increases the reach of print content beyond Ingram’s current channels, which include facilities in the U.S., U.K., Australia and France, to new markets through a network of select book manufacturing and distribution partners. Ingram’s alliance with BoD will provide access to new sales channels in Germany without the worry of inventory in market, importation and customs issues, and shipping and warehousing costs. At the same time, BoD will expand its reach through the Ingram Global Connect network, including all the markets that Ingram serves.
“The demand for the printed book is strong in the German market, and the addition of hundreds of thousands of new titles through Ingram’s Global Connect program is a benefit for the entire publishing supply chain,” said Dr. Moritz Hagenmüller, CEO of Books On Demand GmbH. “We are pleased to be an integral part of this innovative distribution service for publishers all over the world.”
Publishers that print and distribute books with either Lightning Source or BoD will define markets for each title in the Global Connect program. Lightning Source and BoD will maintain file integrity and security as well as reporting and payment remittance to publishers in the same manner as it does today.
Ingram recently announced the expansion of Global Connect in South America with Singular Digital in Brazil. As Ingram continues to grow the program, expansion in the Far East is expected to be announced by the end of 2011. Additional alliances are currently being explored with book manufacturing and distribution organizations in key markets around the world.
