DuPont has donated $1 million toward the development of the national memorial in Washington, D.C., to commemorate the life and work of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The memorial will be dedicated Sunday, Oct. 16.
“The memorial will serve as an important icon in honoring the values Dr. King lived by,” said DuPont Chair and CEO Ellen Kullman. “This contribution is another step in our long tradition of supporting his vision and what he stood for. We are honored to continue our support and help the memorial evolve from a great idea into a reality.”
Following authorization by the U.S. House of Representatives in 1996 to establish a memorial to honor Dr. King, the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation created the memorial that “will honor the values that empowered Dr. King’s leadership, including courage and truth, unconditional love and forgiveness, justice and equality, reconciliation and peace.” The memorial was designed to convey four fundamental and recurring themes of Dr. King’s life: democracy, justice, hope and love.
