Leading content agency Seven and Virgin Digital Publishing co-creators of PROJECT have announced today the merging of Virgin Digital Publishing with Other Edition Limited, creating a new business focused on digital publishing and advertising.

Launched in November 2010 with a world exclusive video cover featuring Hollywood legend Jeff Bridges, PROJECT’s constant innovation and editorial excellence has seen it top the App Store charts on both sides of the Atlantic.

The newly merged company, Virgin Interactive Publishing (V.I.P) will continue the publishing the world’s first iPad magazine, PROJECT. As part of the merger Seven will no longer be involved in PROJECT but will continue to focus on its growing portfolio of blue chip clients.

Launched in November 2010 with a world exclusive video cover featuring Hollywood legend Jeff Bridges, PROJECT’s constant innovation and editorial excellence has seen it top the App Store charts on both sides of the Atlantic.

PROJECT has proved a hit with iPad devotees, bloggers and tech enthusiasts across the world. Launched by Sir Richard Branson and Editor-in-Chief Anthony Noguera in New York, PROJECT was No.1 in the US and UK App Store within hours of its release. At the launch of iPad 2 in San Francisco this year, PROJECT was pre-loaded on to Apple’s new devices to showcase its capability.

Widely recognised as the leading interactive magazine, PROJECT has also been nominated for two industry awards this year, App of the Year at next month’s PPA Awards and Best Mobile Solution at this year’s International Content Awards.

Sean King CEO of Seven said “PROJECT has been a game-changer for Seven. We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved with PROJECT. It has accelerated our transition from a publishing agency to the most dynamic strategic content agency in the UK. We have learnt a huge amount and now we want to focus on harnessing that experience and knowledge into working with our growing list of well known clients looking to engage customers across multiple platforms”

PROJECT’s upscale design and technical creativity have attracted the attention of some of the world’s biggest brands. Seven’s cutting edge advertising production team has created bespoke iPad ads for the likes of L’Oreal, BMW, Virgin Atlantic, Toyota, Intel, Amex, Sony, Kronenbourg, Nissan, Ford, Lexus and Panasonic.

In an ultra-competitive, fast-moving digital market where thousands of new apps appear daily, PROJECT has constantly reinvented itself. Here are just a few of its firsts over the past nine months:

The world’s first gyroscope iPad magazine cover. The cover of Issue 5 used iPad 2’s new gyroscope functionality to create a ‘Summer Movie Blowout’ where users could pan back and forth to reveal the summer’s most exciting film characters, from Captain Jack Sparrow to Bumblebee from Transformers.

Issue 6 featured three firsts. A 3D gesture-controlled magazine art gallery, an entire album’s worth of music in a digital boombox, and, in fashion, a 360-degree view of outfits on a revolving clothes stand.

Nic McCarthy, Seven’s Content Director, said, ‘We knew when we appointed Anthony Noguera that he was the perfect editor for PROJECT. He and his team have taken it from an idea to one of the best, most brilliant apps on the iPad. Seven are incredibly proud to have been part of its rise and rise.’

Giovanni Donaldson at Virgin Digital Publishing said ’We’ve really enjoyed working with Seven and their creative team and thank them for sharing the entrepreneurial and innovative spirit that helped establish PROJECT as one of the world’s leading iPad magazines. We look forward to working with them again in the future.’

PROJECT has notched up firsts with movie stars and music legends. In just nine months, some of the world’s biggest stars have graced the screens of PROJECT – Jeff ‘The Dude’ Bridges, Tinie Tempah, Sir Paul McCartney, Harrison Ford, Stephen Colbert and Eric Bana, to name just a few.

With fantastic features on fashion, film, music and celebrities, PROJECT’s ascent continues. iMonitor has scored it 14/15 and ranked it in the top 1% of apps in its Best Publication Apps 2011 evaluation, on a par with high-profile apps like the Sunday Times and USA Today.
