JDA Software customer recognized as the SMB firm best utilizing technology to achieve substantial growth in size and/or revenue.

JDA® Software Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: JDAS), The Supply Chain Company®, today announced that its customer, Goya Foods, has been selected by CGT Magazine as the winner of the 2011 SMB Market Award. Goya Foods was selected as one of five finalists by CGT’s editorial team based on a nomination submitted by JDA. CGT’s Research and Editorial Advisory Board, which includes senior level executives from P&G, Newell Rubbermaid, Gartner, Nestle, Accenture, PepsiCo and more, chose Goya Foods as the first place winner in this category.

The award recognizes Goya Foods as the SMB consumer goods firm that is best utilizing technology to achieve substantial growth in size and/or revenue. Goya Foods grew from a small store-front business into the largest Hispanic-owned food and number-one Latin brand company in the U.S. Celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, this family-owned business remains true to its roots — bringing unique Latin American flavors to a broad customer base.

Goya Foods uses JDA’s innovative solutions, including JDA® Demand and JDA® Fulfillment, to optimize supply chain planning processes ranging from purchase order management to a vendor-managed inventory program. This helps ensure its supply chain operations are equipped to continue delivering superior customer service and reduced operational costs while keeping pace with the company's growth.

“We’ve built our company on maximizing our sales by neighborhood, and that approach has worked very well since 1936,” said Peter Unanue, executive vice president of operations and logistics, Goya Foods. “As Goya has expanded, our targeted sales strategy has added incredible diversity to our product line. In just the last five years, the number of SKUs we carry has grown by 60 percent. That diversity gives us a significant competitive advantage, but it also has added a lot of supply chain complexity. We use JDA® Demand Classification to develop highly targeted forecasts that recognize the unique demand factors underlying different SKUs. The solution defines the best-fitting demand algorithms for each product. That enables us to have a much more accurate view of future demand, taking into account both promotions and product seasonality.”

The award will be presented to a Goya Foods representative at an awards ceremony Tuesday, Oct. 25 at the annual Consumer Goods Business & Technology Leadership Conference at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Orlando, Fla.
