BUILDER, the leading media brand for the home building industry, unveiled the winners of its annual Builder's Choice Design and Planning Awards last week. The program, which showcases the latest trends and influences in architecture, design, and community planning across the nation, bestowed 42 awards, and named Miller Ranch Porch House in Vanderpool, Texas as Project of the Year.
“Builder’s Choice is one of the industry’s most prestigious and competitive annual design programs,” said Boyce Thompson, BUILDER’S Editorial Director. “This year’s crop of winners speak to the kind of innovative projects that will sustain the industry going forward. Their work is transformative and inspirational, and we honor these professionals for their dedication, commitment and vision across the home building community.”
Sustainability, infill projects, and contemporary architecture were prevalent themes in this year’s class of honorees. The Project of the Year, designed by Lake∣Flato Architects and Duecker Construction, was singled out as a testament to change in the building industry. The project encompassed alternative building systems and solutions that leave a lighter environmental footprint and respect the land, while still delivering safe, durable, comfortable, and ideally beautiful shelter.
This year’s awards program also included the induction of three new members into the William S. Marvin Hall of Fame for Design Excellence, which celebrates architects and builders with a legacy of delivering remarkable residential design.
- William Davidson, Davidson Communities (San Diego, Calif.)
- William Devereaux, Devereaux & Associates (McLean, Va.)
- Michael Pyatok, Pyatok Architects (Oakland, Calif.)
“For each inductee, the awards they have received are just a by-product of a much deeper commitment,” said Thompson. “They each exemplify a passion for improving the quality of life at home for buyers and renters, and to creating buildings that are beautiful and sustainable additions to the community.”
Now in its 31st year, the Builder’s Choice Design and Planning Awards serve as a leading barometer of the latest trends and influences in architecture, design, and community planning across the nation. A panel of top builders and residential architects serve as judges for the open call for entries, and designate Grand, Merit, Special Focus, and Project of the Year winners. 2012 recipients were honored at a special awards dinner at The Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, October 12 sponsored by Marvin Windows. All winners are also profiled in BUILDER (print and online) this month. For more information about the program, visit http://www.BUILDERONLINE.com.
