Halsey & Griffith Inc. is proud to celebrate its 90th anniversary serving South Florida businesses. Established in 1921 in downtown West Palm Beach, Halsey & Griffith quickly grew to become one of South Florida’s largest office supply retailers.
Through the decades, Halsey & Griffith has been the touchstone of business resilience, having endured the infamous Great Okeechobee hurricane of 1928, The Great Depression, WWII, and the advent of big box office supply chains.
Halsey & Griffith’s President and CEO, Robbie Siemon, says his family has been a part of Halsey & Griffith history since his grandfather started working there in the mid-1920’s. In 1951, his grandfather bought the store from Mr. Halsey & Mr. Griffith and it has been family-owned ever since.
The arrival of the big box office supply chains in the 1980’s threatened the survival of many independently-owned retailers, and fueled Halsey & Griffith’s diversification. In 1989 the company established Halsey & Griffith Office Solutions to provide copiers, printers, and faxes, and is now one of South Florida’s premier independent office solutions dealers. In addition to its original office supply retail location on Datura St. in Downtown West Palm Beach, Halsey & Griffith operates its office solutions division out of locations in West Palm Beach and Miami Gardens.
Siemon attributes the company’s staying power to its dedication to customer service, “We are very proud of the fact that Halsey & Griffith is celebrating our 90th year in business. Very few firms have been in business in South Florida as long as we have and we are very grateful for our loyal clients and our employees that have made it possible. My brother James and I represent the 3rd generation in our family to run this business and my son Blake will be the 4th generation someday. Our business has changed a great deal over these past 90 years but our focus on our clients and our employees remains the same. I believe that’s why we have continued to succeed.”
Investing heavily in technology as well as customer service continues to be Siemon’s strategy for business longevity. He believes current economic threats to businesses can be best met with providing superior expertise and customer service. He says, “We have to be able to adapt to new products and services to thrive in the future. The key is training our employees, giving them the resources to succeed, utilizing technology to keep our overhead low, and the owners staying involved in the business on a daily basis.”
