The Planned Giving Secret Millionaire Contest was a huge success across the US, spotlighting the power of giving and the nonprofit organizations donors support. The contest was held by Donor Motivation Program advisors in conjunction with ABC TV's "Secret Millionaire" James Malinchak, featured in the March 20, 2011 episode.
The contest brought attention to charitable giving in general, and planned giving specifically through ABC TV's "Secret Millionaire" and the advisors' relationships with James Malinchak, a great believer in philanthropy. Over 10 million viewers tuned into the episode featuring Malinchak. Very simply, the contest had nonprofits invite their donors to watch “Secret Millionaire” and answer two simple questions at donormotivation.com
Greg Hammond, CFP®, CPA, President, Planned Giving Strategies and his partner, Scott Iles, Vice President, Planned Giving Strategies, both Donor Motivation Program Professionals in Wethersfield, Connecticut, introduced the contest to over 400 nonprofits in their area. The winner, Covenant to Care for Children, quickly responded, asking their donors to watch and answer. Watch and answer their devoted group of donors did – with donor and aspiring author Michelle L. Brooks of Bridgeport, Connecticut being selected as the winner.
The selected donor and sponsoring nonprofit were both winners. “The donor, Michelle L. Brooks, and her guest enjoyed a 3-day trip to Las Vegas and attended a private, VIP party and BBQ by Famous Dave's at “Secret Millionaire” James Malinchak’s home. The sponsoring charity, Covenant to Care for Children, received a $5,000 donation in Ms. Brooks’ name and Ms. Caryl Hallberg, Executive Director, accompanied Ms. Brooks to Las Vegas and the VIP party.
“A planned giving program enhances a nonprofit organization’s long term stability, but must be cost effective and time efficient due to often severely limited resources,” says Greg Hammond, CFP®, CPA. “Planned Giving Strategies helps donors seamlessly integrate charitable giving into their financial plans, and helps organizations roll the benefits out to their donors- we’re glad to be an integral part of the solution," reflects Scott Iles.
