We use iland’s Cloud Services to handle peaks in our QA needs. We really like iland’s Cloud Services because we can control all aspects of the environment, including storage allocations, said Steve Tilly, Vice President of Engineering at Telestream."
Houston, Texas (PRWEB) October 19, 2011
iland, a VMware vCloud™ Services provider and VMware Service Provider Partner of the Year for the Americas, has announced general availability of iland Cloud Services built on VMware vCloud® Director 1.5 in North America and Europe. iland has seen rapid adoption of its iland Cloud Services from customers running production applications, disaster recovery, and test and development solutions in the new environment.
iland Cloud Services provide customers increased business agility with easy deployment of pre-configured application services and the ability to maintain security and control over a multi-tenant environment by restricting role-based access within their organizations. Existing security and performance can be leveraged without having to convert machines to a proprietary public cloud platform. In addition, customers already using VMware vSphere in their corporate data centers can dynamically and securely connect and transfer workloads to and from the iland Cloud globally.
New features of VMware vCloud Director 1.5 enhance the iland Cloud Services environment with support for linked clone deployments which drastically reduce storage consumption and provisioning time for servers built from the same template streamlining test and development efforts. Additionally, resource limitations of virtual guests have been greatly improved to allow for the virtualization of even the most demanding workloads.
“iland has been a service provider partner since the early days of the VMware Service Provider Program and we are pleased to see the global growth of iland Cloud Services,” said Dan Chu, Vice President, Cloud Infrastructure and Services, VMware. “iland’s partner-centric team is focused on delivering customer-driven solutions and we are excited to continue our collaboration delivering tangible business value to the market.”
Sofun Gaming, based in Paris, France, is an iland Cloud Services customer with demanding and heavily bursting workload volumes. Julien Anguenot, CTO at Sofun Gaming comments “We needed a scalable solution based in Europe that was not only compliant with stringent gaming regulations but was cost-effective and able to adapt to huge changes in demand. In addition, we wanted to be in control of changing software and algorithms for initiating new capacity as necessary. The iland solution has proved to be exactly what we were looking for.”
iland’s cloud infrastructure is built upon stringent security processes and controls, including SSAE 16 and ISO accredited Security, Quality, and Environmental managed facilities with enterprise firewall services. The upgrade to VMware vCloud Director 1.5 allows iland to extend a number of its security features including customer facing configuration of extended firewall access lists for more granular control of connectivity, robust VPN capabilities for secure access and transfer of data, and traffic shaping to allow for implementation of complex network architectures.
California-based Telestream provides world-class live and on-demand digital video tools and workflow solutions that allow consumers and businesses to transform video on the desktop and across the enterprise. “We use iland’s Cloud Services to handle peaks in our QA needs. We really like iland’s Cloud Services because we can control all aspects of the environment, including storage allocations. Other cloud providers required an upgrade to the machine when we needed to add storage. Now, having the flexibility to upload our own images and grow them as we please is not only very convenient but gives us considerable savings in time and money too,” said Steve Tilly, Vice President of Engineering at Telestream.
“Our vision was to deploy a globally distributed enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure on an industry leading platform that meets the highest standards of availability, performance, and security,” stated Brian Ussher, President and Co-founder of iland. “VMware vCloud Director 1.5 has enabled that vision and allowed us to deliver a widely adopted platform with a consistent and powerful user experience. We are absolutely thrilled about the control we put in our customers’ hands, including the ability to seamlessly connect their existing VMware vSphere deployments to public iland cloud resources.”
iland Cloud Services can be billed on a Pay-As-You-Go, consumption-based model— an existing environment can be augmented without a term contract and businesses can respond quickly to a demand or deliver IT services across their organization. Alternately, if infrastructure needs are more predictable, virtual datacenters with reserved resources can be built while maintaining a fixed cost or customers can leverage a combination of fixed and consumption-based models.
