CLIF Kid®, maker of organic snacks for active kids, awarded “Sponge Ball Fill-up”, created by Sara, age 10, of Plaistow, NH, the winner of its Backyard Game of the Year Playoffs on Saturday, October 15 at Madison Square Park, during the Fall Kids Fest.
After learning that more kids play computer games than swim or ride a bike, CLIF Kid challenged kids and their parents to reconnect with outside playtime by submitting their most creative backyard games. Five finalists were selected and one creative kid, Sara, took home the top honor and a $10,000 educational scholarship presented by CLIF Kid.
“I’m so excited CLIF Kid picked me as the winner for my backyard game idea,” said Sara, grand prize winner at the CLIF Kid Backyard Game Playoffs. “I got to teach kids my game at the park and I’m going to save my $10,000 scholarship for college.”
In addition to Sara, CLIF Kid flew four finalists and their parent to New York City to present their games to a panel of judges and local families who came out to the event. Each finalist received a Trek(1) bicycle and a Bell(2) helmet and the four runners-up each won a $1,000 educational scholarship.
Game rules for the five games showcased at the CLIF Kid Backyard Game of the Year Playoffs – “Alligator Tail”, “Eagle’s Nest”, “Hoop Ball”, “Nature to Nature” and “Sponge Ball Fill-up” – can be viewed at http://www.ClifKidBackyardGame.com so that kids everywhere can have fun with these games in their own backyard.
“We think it’s important that kids play outside regularly in order to live healthy, active lives, and hope that other kids will be inspired by Sara and our other finalists,” said Jennifer Yun, brand director for CLIF Kid. “There are no limits to what kids can create when they unleash their imagination outside.”
CLIF Kid will donate “Sponge Ball Fill-up” to Children & Nature Network, a non-profit organization working to reconnect kids with nature. Children & Nature Network provides a critical link between researchers, educators and organizations dedicated to children's health and wellness.
