Armed Forces Insurance (http://www.afi.org) recently donated $100,000 to sponsor Sky Ball IX, a fundraising event established by the Fort Worth Airpower Foundation that supports numerous programs and causes benefiting military members, wounded warriors, veterans and their families.

Sky Ball IX — which will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Medal of Honor, as well as the centennials of Naval and Marine Corps aviation — will be held from 7:00-11:00 p.m. on October 22 in the American Airlines facility at Alliance Fort Worth Airport in Fort Worth, Texas. The fundraising goal for this year’s event is $1 million.

“Our Sky Ball sponsorship is an ideal way to give back to those who have sacrificed so much in the service of their country,” said Kurt Seelbach, President and CEO, Armed Forces Insurance. “It’s an important part of our continuing support of various charities that benefit military families, which is in keeping with AFI’s purpose: protecting those who protect our nation.”

Tony Orlando will serve as the celebrity host, with entertainment provided by Gary Sinise and the Lieutenant Dan Band. Several Medal of Honor recipients will attend, along with senior leadership from AFI, Military Spouse of the Year Bianca Strzalkowski, and Babette Maxwell, co-founder and editor-in-chief of Military Spouse magazine, which created the Military Spouse of the Year Award. Marine aircraft also will be on display. Sky Ball IX is part of a weekend-long celebration that includes the Alliance Air Show and a free, private Clint Black concert on Friday evening for military members and their families.

Over the past four years, Sky Ball has raised more than $1.5 million, enabling the Fort Worth Airpower Foundation to contribute to programs that directly support members of all military branches and their families through various contingency funds at the Naval Air Station, Fort Worth, Joint Reserve Base and other programs. Also funded by Sky Ball proceeds are Heroes on the Water, which helps veterans heal through fellowship and fishing; Freedom Flight, which takes World War II veterans to visit their memorial in Washington, D.C.; and Snowball Express, which helps children of fallen military heal. In 2010, more than 2,500 guests and 500 military members attended the event.

Additional information about Sky Ball IX, individual tickets and table sponsorships are available from The Fort Worth Airpower Foundation at 817-682-0767 and http://www.SkyBallinfo.com.
