Janrain, Inc., (http://www.janrain.com) provider of the leading user management platform for the social web, today announced that Allen Tom, former principal architect and security lead for Yahoo’s Membership Platform has joined the company.
Joining Janrain as a senior software architect, Allen Tom will be working to make Internet identity portable, interoperable and secure. Prior to joining Janrain, Allen was the principal architect and security lead for Yahoo's Membership Platform, and was responsible for Yahoo's user account management, single sign on, and API authorization services. Allen serves as a director of the OpenID Foundation. Prior to joining Yahoo, Allen was a principal engineer at AOL, working on AOL Music and AOL shopping, and worked on LDAP as a senior software engineer at Netscape.
“Internet identity is rapidly evolving and is currently undergoing incredible innovation and disruption,” said Allen Tom, software architect. “I joined the Janrain team because the company has always been at the forefront, leading the way with open identity standards, and enabling users to have choices in how they identify themselves online.”
“I have admired Allen’s work for several years, and am personally thrilled to have him join the Janrain team,” said Larry Drebes, CEO of Janrain. “I have no doubt that he will bring his deep expertise in social identity and user management to bear on our products in ways that immediately help our customers, and continue to move the market forward.”
Janrain’s legacy of defining and leading the social identity space uniquely positions it to bridge the gap between users, identity providers, brand sites, and developers to make the next generation of Internet identity a reality through the suite of solutions that comprise the Janrain User Management Platform.
Over the past six years, Janrain has developed a track record of championing key protocols such as OpenID and OAuth. Allen Tom joins other known identity technologists, Johnny Bufu and Carl Howells. Both have made significant contributions to OpenID specifications that have furthered the technology and made it a useful standard for web developers.
This week several Janrain technologists are participating in the Internet Identity Workshop (IIW) and showing the use of the next generation of the OpenID protocol, OpenID Connect in its Identity Services product, a turnkey solution for brands interested in becoming identity providers.
