Susan Baer is on a mission: she wants everybody to get massaged every week. And she has the tools to make it happen.

A simple hand tool that feels like a thumb and helps anyone give a good massage regardless of hand strength has led the Portland Chapter of the Oregon Federation Of Business & Professional Women’s Clubs, Inc. to name Susan Baer its 2011 Portland Business Woman of the Year.

Ms. Baer helped invent the Thumbby™ Soft Massage Cone (patent-pending) and co-founded the Thumbby™ Company in Portland in 2007. She is also Third Vice-President of the Oregon Chapter of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), which is holding its national convention in Portland this week, Oct 19-22 at the Oregon Convention Center.

Ms. Baer wants to see massage become a normal part of one's wellness regimen. “Everybody is stressed these days, and massage is such a simple, beneficial activity. It reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, eases pain, improves circulation, promotes healing, and increases feelings of well-being. Just imagine how much healthier and happier everybody would be if they got some kind of massage every week.”

The Thumbby™ Soft Massage Cone is currently being used by thousands of licensed massage therapists and their clients. For the many who do not receive massage regularly – especially massage therapists – Ms. Baer recommends using the Thumbby™ Soft Massage Cone for self-care. “It's small, it's portable, and it sticks to smooth surfaces so you can reach those tight places on your own back.”
