Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 21, 2011
Rock It Workouts (http://www.RockItWorkouts.com), a new fitness center in Old Pasadena that offers high-energy, upbeat workouts entirely set to the beats spun live by on-site DJs, alongside sponsor Wet N Wild Beauty, today announces that they will kick off Rock It Pink For The Cure, a walkathon uniting local residents and area businesses in support of Cancer Support Community (http://www.cancersupportcommunity.org). Participants will gather on October 22nd, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. inside of Pasadena’s Rock It Workouts Studio at 54 W. Green Street, where they will enjoy live DJ’s and refreshments before embarking upon a journey that will take them through the heart of Old Pasadena.
The donation to participate is forty dollars ($40.00), with proceeds benefitting the Cancer Support Community, a non-profit organization that strives to ensure all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and sustained by community. Cancer survivors and their families, as well as Cancer Support Community board members and staff will lead the walk.
“We are extremely pleased to be named the charity beneficiary of this event,” said Beverly Rouse, Executive Director at Cancer Support Community. “Funds raised will be used to help provide our unique emotional, educational, and fitness programs for people facing cancer. We depend entirely upon donations each year to underwrite program expenses and are grateful that Rock It selected Cancer Support Community as a partner.”
Rock It Brands will give each walkathon registrant a Rock It Pink t-shirt from its fashion retailer Industry 1212 (http://www.Industry1212.com), and will provide iced and hot teas from its organic tea bar Blend54 (http://www.Blend54.com). Those who wish to join Rock It Workouts on the day of the walkathon will be able to allocate 10% of their membership fees towards the charity. In addition, Industry 1212 will offer discount cards, entitling cardholders to enjoy a 10% discount on all merchandise for one month, for a one-time donation of $25 made to the cause. Wet N Wild Beauty will additionally pamper participants with beauty products to take home.
Meg Symes, a member at Rock It Workouts Pasadena who also serves as a Board Member at Cancer Support Community, added “Rock It Workouts offers such an exciting and fun way to get in shape and I’m so happy that "Rock It Pink for the Cure" will give people a fun, worthwhile way to celebrate the women in their lives who have faced cancer.”
Rock It Workouts has also pulled together community support from area businesses, who will offer additional incentives, prizes and refreshments to the participants.
“Rock It Workouts is a new addition to Old Pasadena, and we are constantly encouraging our members to be the strongest they can be in all aspects of their life, including social consciousness,” said Nicole Winnaman, founder of Rock It Workouts. “It is so incredibly important for us to show area residents that we practice what we teach, and that we are excited to be a part of this community. It’s our absolute honor to launch this campaign. We can’t wait to inspire others to make a difference with us.”

About Cancer Support Community
Cancer Support Community Pasadena was founded in 1990 as The Wellness Community-Foothills to provide psychosocial services for people affected by cancer at no charge to participants. In 2010, after The Wellness Community and Gilda’s Club merged, the new organization became known as Cancer Support Community. Today, Cancer Support Community remains an evidence-based organization with 50 affiliates in the US and many international sites. It is the largest employer in the nation of mental health professionals dedicated to serving people affected by cancer.
More than 4,000 people will be served by Cancer Support Community during 2011 via professionally led emotional support groups, educational workshops presented by leading oncologists and health care professionals, and mind-body/relaxation/fitness classes taught by certified instructors. Cancer Support Community provides services to people with all types of cancer, their caregivers and those who have lost a loved one to cancer. Children’s Corner, a children’s program for children whose parents have been diagnosed with cancer meets the needs of children between the ages of 6 and 13. The organization does not receive city, state, or federal grants and depends entirely upon charitable contributions to ensure that nobody faces cancer alone.
