The short story collection Hearts in Adversity: Trilogy of Love II (published by iUniverse) continues the Trilogy of Love series, Alfonso Moret’s compelling look at the different faces of love . These three short stories are filled with intrigue, excitement, and romance.

In “Infatuations,” a widower becomes obsessed with a woman he encounters by chance. He begins a romantic quest filled with flashbacks of his previous love, his beloved wife. The memory of those heartbreaking years, of his wife’s kidnapping and tragic death, return with a vengeance when the same kidnapper escapes from prison and becomes a leading suspect in a déjà vous occurrence.

A veteran detective investigates a slew of robberies with his new partner, an alluring female rookie detective, in “The Big Bust.” As the pair gathers evidence, they also ignite a deadly triangle of romance, jealousy and passion that grows worse when they discover the involvement of Cuban mobsters and Russian gangsters and hit-men.

“The Enchantment” follows three recovering addicts seeking redemption from their immature, immoral and emotional lives through witchcraft in Baja Mexico with three enticing witches.

Speaking of his protagonists, Moret says they are “… men that had important loves in their lives and due to powerless situations have bewildered them. They’re on a path to recover love.”
