Most parents don’t realize that tooth decay is the most common disease found in children, and also the most preventable. Teeth are more vulnerable to decay during the first few years after they come in, and since children are getting teeth until age thirteen, they have a higher risk of decay until approximately age fifteen! So, for the 9th straight year, Dental Associates of Connecticut is putting its money where its mouth is, and will hold their very popular Candy Buy Back Program on Tuesday, November 8th! When a parent brings their child to one of Dental Associates’ four offices during the specified time, we will weigh the child’s unopened, excess Halloween candy and buy it from the child for $2 per pound, up to a maximum of 10 pounds. That’s TWICE the amount that other dental candy buyback programs offer!
Over the past 8 years, the Dental Associates of Connecticut has bought back over 4 TONS of candy – almost $16,000 worth! “This event gets larger every year” said pediatric dentist Dr. John Iwasaki. “The Candy Buy Back program is important to us because we feel we have a responsibility to our patients and communities to promote good dental health practices. By continually having this event, it shows we are committed to this goal.”
Last year, nearly one TON of candy was collected, and Dental Associates of Connecticut anticipates surpassing that amount this year. The candy, along with toothbrushes, paste and floss, will be donated to various local service agencies in the towns where they have offices (Danbury, New Milford, Newtown, and Trumbull), and to Operation Gratitude, an organization that sends care packages to our soldiers overseas.
Locations and times for the November 8th Halloween Candy Buy Back Event is as follows:
