Sergie Waisman’s new autobiography Cycles of Destiny: This is My Journey (published by Trafford Publishing) chronicles his life, from his birth in Manchuria, where Russia and China meet to his military service in Israel and his eventual emigration to the United States.

In 1904 Waisman’s grandparents met, fell in love and married, over both their families’ objections. When his grandfather was assigned to the Russian military post near Manchuria, China, where the roots of the author’s dual heritage were planted.

Following the Russian Revolution, Waisman’s grandparents raised their children in Harbin. Waisman was born in Dalian, China in 1944. Waisman grew up during the Chinese Civil War and under communism. His father was arrested by Russian occupation forces and banished to Siberia, never to be seen or heard from again.

Even without his father around, Waisman discovered his heritage. He immigrated with his mother and sister to the newly established state of Israel in 1953, where he would eventually serve in the elite paratrooper unit of the Israel Defense Forces. Waisman’s adventures would eventually take him to the United States, where he met a woman – born in the same Manchurian hospital – who would change and share his adult life.

This autobiography offers not only the tale of one man’s life and rich, varied cultural heritage, but also a unique perspective on the historical events he witnessed firsthand.
