TECcare Ultra antimicrobial disinfectant passes EN14563 TB testing

Share Article

Independent testing carried out by the accredited BluTest Laboratories has shown that TECcare Ultra has passed EN14563 Quantitative carrier test for the evaluation of mycobactericidal or tuberculocidal activity of chemical disinfectants used for instruments in the medical area. Tested using two mycobacteria isolates TECcare Ultra demonstrated it achieved >4 log reduction in less than 5 minutes.

Unlike some competitor disinfectants that claim mycobactericidal or tuberculocidal efficacy TECcare Ultra has proved to be effective in both clean and dirty conditions, demonstrating its efficacy in true real life environmental working conditions.

Tuberculosis, commonly known as TB (tubercle bacillus) or formerly referred to as consumption, is a potential lethal infectious disease caused by strains mycobacteria which attacks the lungs and other parts of the body.

TB mycobacterium is transmitted through airborne droplets of sputum expelled by symptomatic carries during episodes of coughing or sneezing. Surfaces contaminated with mycobacterium can also facilitate the spread of the disease.

The majority of TB infected individuals are asymptomatic, showing no evident symptoms of the disease, however approximately 10% of asymptomatic carriers progress to the symptomatic state, with the characteristic symptoms of chronic cough, sneezing, fever, night sweats and severe loss of weight. 50% of symptomatic TB patients will die if left untreated.

According to the Health protection Agency there were 8,587 cases of TB recorded in the UK in 2010 of which 7.4% of cases were resistant to at least one first line drug and 1.2% where multi drug resistant making them very hard to treat. The World Health Organisation estimates globally nearly two million deaths can be attributed to TB every year.

In use TECcare Ultra is designated non-hazardous, and can be applied without detrimental effect to all hard surfaces either directly or through the new TUF II total environmental decontamination fogging system due to be launched later this year.

Kevin Mearns, Operations Director for Talley Environmental Care Limited commented “this is an important development in the fight against this prolific global killer and with our recently announced “dry surface” C.diff sporicidal results further goes to demonstrate the power of the TECcare antimicrobial platforms developed by the company. We hope to soon announce the launch of a range of new products utilising TECcare Ultra to provide end users with truly safe and effective antimicrobial solutions.”
