The inspirational true life story of legendary Hollywood producer and great American hero, Merian C. Cooper, will be brought to the screen by the Foundation to Illuminate American Heroes. This feature film project will be financed by tax-deductible donations from the grassroots public to the non-profit Foundation through the launch of the first ever social media campaign to finance a major motion picture.
The Foundation to Illuminate America’s Heroes is a tax-exempt public charity. The Foundation’s sole mission is to identify and illuminate true American heroes in every field of endeavor, whose stories help to form the soul of this great nation. Utilizing a unique website and the power of social media, the Foundation is conducting an egalitarian search of true American heroes to feature. A distinguished Advisory Board will help select the most outstanding heroes whose stories will be illuminated through television talk shows, magazine articles, books and films.
When launched shortly, the Foundation will feature a classic hero story; the legendary story of Merian C. Cooper, the Oscar-award recipient and producer of feature films, including the original King Kong film. Cooper’s life is the “greatest story never told”, the miraculous and inspirational story of not only a great Hollywood hero, but his heroic repayment of America’s greatest debt.
Founding Board member and Executive Director, David Jamison, who was a key deputy to Pulitzer-prize winning columnist Jack Anderson in Washington, DC, stated: “The Foundation to Illuminate America’s Heroes is actively seeking the support of the Hollywood community—Producers, Directors, Actors--to both serve as Advisors to the Foundation and help select outstanding heroes from among the stories submitted. We are also hoping that the Hollywood community will help the Foundation produce this first feature film highlighting the Cooper story.”
“We are excited by the prospect of utilizing a social media campaign to raise financing from the grassroots public to produce a major feature film”, said Jamison. “The Foundation to Illuminate America’s Heroes is convinced that it has identified a story so unique and significant that it justifies the effort to seek general public funding to produce this feature film. The astounding story of Merian Cooper and his fellow American fighter pilots, who risked their lives to repay America’s greatest debt by coming to Poland’s aid in that country’s hour of need, as did Lafayette, Pulaski, Kosciuszko and others who came to America's aid in our fight for freedom. And, it also illustrates the mission of the Foundation to discover and illuminate other untold hero stories”.
The Foundation expects to launch its website and massive social media campaign shortly (http://www.illuminateamericasheroes.com). For further information on the Foundation and this public financing effort, please contact: David C. Jamison, davidj(at)genesisdothan(dot)com, 334-718-9501
