San Diego, CA (PRWEB) October 24, 2011
The San Diego Italian Film Festival, celebrating its 5th year, has announced its lineup of films for 2011. All screenings are open to the public, are in Italian with English subtitles, and a schedule of films and events can be found on the San Diego Italian Film Festival website. Introductions by the Festival’s experts will give patrons the insights to understand the context, technique and influences that make the film special and put the viewer into the heart of Italy.
“This year’s array of films will truly transport audiences to Italy. The films are funny, sad, ferocious, and provocative,” said Victor Laruccia, Executive Director of SDIFF. “Viewers can see acclaimed director Paolo Virzi’s award winning 2010 film, La prima cosa bella (The first beautiful thing), catch the great noir film La ragazza del lago (The girl by the lake) or enjoy a retrospective of groundbreaking neo-realism films by a group of Italy’s greatest directors.”.
The festival brings award-winning films that have never before been screened in San Diego to a growing audience appreciative of Italian culture. Two weeks of film will culminate in a Gala event held at the Museum of Photographic arts in Balboa Park. This party will be filled with great food, wonderful wine, live music, and a movie - all meant to provide not just the feel of Italy, but the tastes, aromas and life of an Italian piazza. All of these ingredients make this one of the more unique film festivals in San Diego.
Mr. Laruccia added that for those San Diegans looking to support the arts, this is a perfect opportunity to do so, and one which comes with perks and discounts for the festival and events surrounding it.
