For many people, God exists as someone they hear about at church on Sunday or call out to in a crisis, but rarely think about otherwise. In his new book The Next Day: How God Still Speaks (published by WestBow Press), author Tim Leiphart offers a collection of his experiences living for Christ during the week as well.
“The purpose of these pages is to encourage taking God’s Word into the middle of real life,” Leiphart says, “and to develop a habit of thinking about God and listening for Him all the time. I believe He has given us access to the power of the kingdom of Heaven while we still live here on Earth so that we can more quickly restore the relationship.”
The letters that make up The Next Day are compiled from three years of post-sermon reflections Leiphart began recording on Monday evenings. Many of the letters are flavored with the author’s unique wit and humor, which makes reading them enjoyable as well as enlightening. Some are painfully personal, while others are maddeningly confrontational as he invites the reader to join him for a look in the mirror.
“I think the book will appeal to anyone who is trying to get a handle on this life,” Leiphart says, “and who has a desire to apply God’s Word to everyday living and get real joy, peace and victory from it. It’s what I would like to say if I was your brother or a close friend and we could sit down together for a cup of coffee.”
What differentiates this book from the many others that may sit beside it on bookshelves is the author. Leiphart is not a pastor, professor or doctor; he’s simply a man honestly seeking Christ. His words should resonate with many readers because they are the words of a person just like them.
