UMBC Gears Up for “Winter Session”

Share Article

Winter Session at the UMBC is a minimester that takes place in January between the Fall and Spring semesters. Because of its condensed format, Winter Session is a great way for students to get ahead, boost their GPA, or focus on a difficult course. Winter Session is open to current UMBC students as well as incoming freshmen/transfers and visiting students. For any student, Winter Session provides an opportunity to get familiar with the campus, learn from top-rated faculty, adapt to college life, meet new people, and/or earn transferable credits.

Registration for Winter Session at UMBC begins October 31, 2011 and continues until January 2, 2012. The session itself takes place from January 3 – January 25, 2012. Students may earn up to 4.5 credits and select from more than 100 required courses and electives that are offered during Winter Session, including mathematics, science and engineering, foreign language, and general education courses. Over 25% of these courses are conveniently offered online or in hybrid format, so that students may choose from diverse methods of instruction in order to serve their best interest.

Winter Session is reaching out to students through a new social media campaign that includes RainedOut, a text-message alert program that helps students receive schedule, scholarship, registration and other information, as well as a Facebook page. These platforms work to make contacts, share ideas, pose questions, exchange opportunities, discuss issues of interest, and more.
