In response to the travel industry going mobile in unprecedented numbers, Scottsdale-based mobiManage has seen a 120 percent growth in 2011. mobiManage is a company that designs, develops, manages and markets mobile websites and mobile applications. The company’s growth is a result of the addition and expansion of several clients, including Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, Chicago Convention and Visitors Bureau and Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau. In addition, mobiManage has responded to the travel industry’s expanding use of mobile marketing with several new products, such as mobiConvention, a customizable product that allows convention and visitors bureaus to deploy mobile websites for local events and take their mobile strategies to new levels.

In summer 2011, mobiManage expanded its relationship with Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau and implemented its mobiConvention product on the Bureau’s The Red Movement project. The Red Movement, which is reflective of the University of Utah’s colors, aims to increase and encourage community support for the University of Utah, is a joint effort between Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau, University of Utah Athletics, the Downtown Alliance, the Mayor’s Office, the Utah Sports Commission and EDCUtah.

“mobiManage has seen incredible growth over the past year, particularly in the travel and tourism industry, which is rapidly expanding into the mobile website space,” said Doug Ralston, president, mobiManage. “Travelers are increasingly using mobile devices to make travel plans. Eighty two percent of travelers book a hotel on their mobile device within one day of their arrival. It’s great to see businesses recognize the need to be accessible via mobile devices and work with us to capitalize on it.”

The Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau, a private, non-profit organization that promotes Salt Lake City as a travel destination, approached mobiManage about The Red Movement project when the University of Utah proudly became a member of the Pac-12. Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau wanted a mobile website for The Red Movement that would highlight everything downtown Salt Lake City has to offer, including restaurants, bars, hotels and events, and would encourage visitors to explore the city.

“The Red Movement project was a perfect addition to Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau’s current mobile strategy,” said Ralston. “As they continue to see growth and demand from their mobile-savvy travelers and smartphone users, it is apparent that the mobiConvention product would be a great fit for The Red Movement. Not only does it drive value to their current mobile initiatives, this solution allows Salt Lake to drive value to its community and local businesses as well.”

The site mobiManage created is easy to navigate and includes advanced features such as mobile coupons, a calendar of events, GEO location, which allows users to find restaurants, hotels and other businesses near them, and the complete University of Utah athletic schedule. mobiManage also implemented social media buttons into The Red Movement’s mobile website, which instantly connects visitors, through social media sites, to the Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau and its members and partners.

The Red Movement is just one component of Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau’s mobile marketing strategy. mobiManage also designed a mobile site to complement the Bureau’s main website and is in the process of implementing its mobiTablet product to create a site specifically for tablet users.

Since the September 2011 launch of The Red Movement’s mobile website, there have been more than 4,000 visitors from locations including Ariz., Calif., D.C., Va., Wash. and Beijing.
