Utility Telephone – Making Business Connections

Utility Telephone will continue to provide customers with the exceptional service that they have come to expect from GBIS.

Utility Telephone, Inc. has confirmed that they have entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the customer base and network assets of Reno-based Internet and VoIP provider, Great Basin Internet Services, Inc. (GBIS).

Under the terms of the acquisition, expected to close within the next sixty (60) days, Utility Telephone will acquire 2,700 retail customers throughout Northern Nevada and Eastern California markets, and will add a substantial footprint to Utility Telephone’s existing Nevada network which includes a 2.5 gigabit-per-second fiber-optic network linking Reno, Carson City and Fernley.

GBIS’s customer base will now be offered new services, such as MPLS, and long-distance products, in addition to customer-premise equipment.

“Bringing GBIS customers into the Utility Telephone family is a natural fit,“ said Jason Mills, Founder and CEO of Utility Telephone. “The customer and community-oriented principals of both companies will facilitate a seamless transition. Utility Telephone will continue to provide customers with the exceptional service that they have come to expect from GBIS.”
The GBIS purchase will complement last year’s acquisition by Utility Telephone of the Minden based DSL provider WPTI Telecom.

“GBIS has dedicated itself to providing customers with cutting-edge products and services backed by long-term stability and local support,” said Bruce Robertson, Founder and President of GBIS. “Utility Telephone shares our philosophy, evident by their handling of the acquisition of our sister company WPTI last year, and we are confident that this is the right decision for GBIS and our customers.”

Utility Telephone has provided service to Nevada residents since 2009, and has a local direct sales team as well as service technicians. This acquisition of GBIS further enhances Utility’s market share and depth, with the addition of wireless broadband and extreme DSL services.
This transaction is subject to closing terms and conditions, including regulatory approvals. Following approval, customers will experience no degradation of service and transfer to Utility’s systems will be expertly executed.
