Presentation to Highlight the Strategies that Facility Owners are Adopting to Maximize the Benefit of Building Information Modeling

e-Builder, an industry leader in the development of capital program and project management software, announced today that Guillermo Ramos, Director of CIP at UT Southwestern Medical Center, and Sam Neider, Director of Operations at the Proactive Controls Group, will speak at COAA’s Fall Leadership Conference on the BIM strategy developed for UTSW to avoid costly overruns and schedule delays on an $800 million fast-track project. The conference occurs November 9th-11th at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada. During the presentation, the speakers will discuss how a six-phased BIM approach has helped address typical construction problems – standard of care challenges, excessive RFIs and change orders, delays, budget crunches, and claims.

During this presentation, attendees will get a thorough understanding of strategies that facility owners can define to manage the BIM process while getting the most benefit and value. Attendees will also learn how to recognize potential roadblocks that could impede the process, and ways to overcome these obstacles.

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center has been a leader in using technology to improve capital project delivery. The CIP team was instrumental in the development of a construction app for the iPad that enables workflow automation capabilities from the field. They have also worked with Proactive Controls Group to adopt BIM as a project delivery process in a way that the project team, and ultimately the university, can achieve all the benefits promised by this emerging process. Proactive Controls Group has also helped incorporate existing technology from e-Builder to enable a BIM hub for design coordination. This streamlined coordination process mitigates the most common communication and inefficiency problems that occur as project participants share and synchronize BIM files.
