Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) October 31, 2011
International School of Brooklyn (ISB), located in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, is New York’s only International Baccalaureate World School offering a French and Spanish language immersion program.
ISB currently offers a full Lower School (Nursery-5th grade), with over 190 students enrolled. In keeping with its plan of continual growth through 12th grade, ISB is now accepting applications for 6th grade and will welcome its first Middle School students in September 2012.
Middle School Planning Director Carlos Martínez joined ISB’s administration in August 2011, a year ahead of the launch, to plan for this new chapter in the school’s development. Mr. Martínez most recently has worked at International Baccalaureate in Cardiff, Wales. For fifteen years prior he was a middle and high school Spanish language teacher in several international schools around the world. Drawn to ISB because of the unique combination of French and Spanish language immersion and the highly respected International Baccalaureate, he brings a wealth of experience and a passion for internationally-minded education to the school.
Surveys and announcements are being circulated around the five boroughs in order to capture the attention of new families who are interested in a bilingual international education for their children at the middle school level. The administration at ISB aims to welcome approximately 20 students to 6th grade in 2012. While admission to ISB remains competitive, the relative size of the current 5th grade and the addition of the English program make way for new students to enter ISB’s Middle School.
As an International Baccalaureate World School, ISB will implement the IB Middle Years Programme, a holistic and well-rounded approach to teaching and learning with a focus on international understanding, communication, and interdisciplinary education. ISB will also maintain its commitment to bilingualism: The Spanish and French bilingual programs will continue and a new English program will be introduced for those students without proficiency in Spanish or French. Those students who have been in the school from the beginning, or who enter in 6th grade as bilingual students, will be able to further develop both languages as well as study a third language. Students who enter ISB at 6th grade in the English program will have the majority of their courses in English, as well as the opportunity to study French or Spanish as part of their curriculum. More details on the curriculum and scope of Middle School can be found on ISB’s website: http://www.isbrooklyn.org
Information Sessions for interested families begin on November 2nd, 2011. Families are encouraged to attend information sessions to learn more about Middle School, the IB Middle Years Programme, and the ISB community. The application deadline is December 16th, 2011.
International School of Brooklyn (ISB) is an independent, non-sectarian, not-for-profit educational institution.
