We are very excited to be the only U.S. based clinic offering this cutting edge clinical trial and are looking forward to helping those in the Phoenix area suffering from chronic pain.

Scottsdale, Arizona (PRWEB) October 28, 2011

The team at Arizona Pain Specialists (http://www.arizonapain.com) has been selected for an FDA-cleared adult stem cell study on advanced treatment for chronic low back pain. The study will offer this promising alternative to patients at the Arizona Pain Specialist’s clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The treatment offered through the trial study may unlock a vital solution for many people suffering from debilitating pain. Approximately 15% of people in industrialized countries have chronic back pain lasting more than six months. Patients with pain from degenerative discs may now be able to avoid major back surgery. This new treatment involves a single stem cell injection administered into a degenerative disc through the use of adult donor bone marrow stem cells (not derived from embryos).

The selection of Arizona Pain Specialists for this study strengthens the organization’s reputation as leaders in pain management. Physicians at the practice are thrilled to have been chosen to research this innovative biotech treatment.

Dr. Tory McJunkin, co-founder of Arizona Pain Specialists and PainDoctor.com, is a double board certified pain physician. The study may provide a breakthrough in effectively addressing certain chronic pain conditions.

"Stem cell research within the disc is very exciting. It focuses on addressing the source of the pain, rather than solely the treatment,” says McJunkin. “As an interventional pain doctor I have seen incredible advances in the specialty during the past 10 years – and this study shows we are still at the tip of the iceberg for major advances in pain medicine.”

The hope is that these stem cells will demonstrate their natural ability to regenerate deteriorating intervertebral discs, reversing damage to the spine. Such discs do not otherwise have the capability to regenerate on their own. This minimally-invasive treatment may address pain caused by degenerative disc disease and other discogenic pain conditions.

A global regenerative medicine company, Mesoblast Limited will sponsor the trial study.
Mesoblast’s recent preclinical results indicated that their technology reverses the degenerative process and regenerates disc materials. Mesoblast is world renowned for developing novel regenerative medicine therapies with the aim of improving quality of life and increasing survival of patients with major, unmet clinical needs.

“Pain is difficult, and we believe in an aggressive, minimally invasive approach to pain management that incorporates various treatment modalities,” says Dr. Paul Lynch, cofounder of Arizona Pain Specialists and PainDoctor.com. “The opportunity to research this therapy gives me hope that patients who suffer from conditions like degenerative disc disease may find successful relief.”

The team at Arizona Pain Specialists works together to provide relief for various types of chronic pain – including back, neck, facial, joint, hip, and cancer pain, as well as other ailments. These specialists work with one mission in mind: “to change lives by delivering world-class pain management care that we would want for our own mom and dad.”
