Just 18 months after launching, the red-hot mobile communications service has reached 12 million users. Bubbly, best described as a “voice-based Twitter”, is a social messaging service where people share voice updates with friends, family, fans and followers. The service has delivered more than 300 million messages in the last year alone and is now available to over 1 billion mobile phone users across a dozen Asian mobile networks.
With roughly one-half of its active users paying for the service, Bubbly is seeing strong monetization growth across its markets. Most recently, Japan has leapfrogged other countries to become Bubbly’s second largest source of revenue, averaging over $43/year per user. This momentum has Asia’s largest operators scrambling to add Bubbly to their networks as a value added service. Over the past three months, Bubbly has launched on Vodafone in India, SoftBank Mobile in Japan and Telkomsel in Indonesia.
