Harton Regional Medical Center has multiple systems and eight 3D flat displays spread over two OR suites, which create a 3D IMAX-like surgical experience in the operating room.
Santa Barbara, CALIF. (PRWEB) November 01, 2011
TrueVision® 3D Surgical announced today that its 3D visualization platform for the operating room has been adopted by Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma, Tennessee. Harton Regional Medical Center is the first medical center in the state with a fully integrated, digital 3D neurosurgical operating room.
“It is fully integrated. There are no wires, no cables exposed. Everything is controlled from a touch panel at the nurses’ station,” notes A. Burton Tripathi, Ph.D., CTO for Santa Barbara, Calif.-based TrueVision 3D Surgical. “Harton Regional Medical Center has multiple systems and eight 3D flat displays spread over two OR suites, which create a 3D IMAX-like surgical experience in the operating room.”
The TrueVision® 3D Surgical Visualization System is a real-time, stereoscopic, 3D high-definition visualization system that attaches to microscopes to display the surgical field on 3D flat panel displays in the operating room. The advanced technology is used to visualize, record, and playback microsurgery and to stream live stereoscopic video of the surgical field, making it an unparalleled teaching tool. The system features the ability to digitally stream and broadcast live procedures in 3D from the operating room to remote 3D-equipped conference rooms and theaters for any size audience.
TrueVision enables surgeons to perform and archive surgery in 3D via a heads-up 1080p display instead of looking through the microscope. Surgeons, residents, and the operating room staff can view what traditionally only one or two surgeons could observe through the microscope.
Seyed Emadian, MD, Ph.D., led the initiative to equip the Harton surgery suites with the state-of-the-art TrueVision®. A noted neurological surgeon, Dr. Emadian performs many cranial and spine surgeries as well as advanced and pediatric neurosurgeries annually. He also provides surgical training to other doctors and lectures internationally on his area of expertise.
Dr. Emadian notes, “TrueVision® provides me with a 3D high-def view of the surgical field that allows the residents and operating room staff to see what I see. The ability to broadcast 3D, live or video, from the OR to remote locations allows flexibility to present 3D to students, at medical conferences and symposia all over the world.”
