Electronics Technicians Association International, Inc. (ETA) and CertTEC®, a division of SpaceTEC® Partners Inc. (SPI), signed a Memorandum of Agreement to link the programs available within the two businesses supporting traditional written knowledge testing with performance credentialing to meet the changing needs of industry. This initiative will provide technician certification in four areas required by the industry that relate to the core capabilities of both organizations for Basic Electricity & Electronics – namely: AC, DC, Analog, and Digital technician certifications.

Mrs. Teresa Maher, President of Electronics Technicians Association International, Inc., said: “There has been a growing demand for technical certifications in the electrical and electronics fields to validate a technician’s knowledge and skills.” ETA® currently provides industry-accepted knowledge assessments and decided to join with CertTEC® to include a hands-on skills component for employers and technicians who are seeking to enhance their current certifications. “We were impressed with CertTEC’s ability to provide skills assessments using approaches similar to what SpaceTEC® is providing to the aerospace technical workforce. Combined with our current ETA® certifications, this is exactly what some in our industry have been asking for in advanced technician performance certification.”

Dr. Albert Koller, the Executive Director of SpaceTEC® Partners, Inc., noted that activities with Electronics Technicians Association International, Inc. will result in significant improvements in advanced technician training and testing capabilities. “The essence of workforce education is understanding what a person knows as well as what a person can actually do. CertTEC® provides hands-on performance assessments that build on ETA’s long-standing certification testing system to validate the relevant skills and competencies that industry now demands.”

The two partners will be offering their assessments at locations representing the military, industry, and technology training centers nationwide. ETA® will promote their computer-based testing as a prerequisite for CertTEC® testing. CertTEC® will offer its hands-on skill tests using a web-based assessment delivery tool in conjunction with consoles used in many popular electronics training programs. Both partners expect to offer their linked programs to thousands of Basic Electrical & Electronics certification candidates early in 2012.
