Summit Medical Group (SMG) announces the addition of cardiologist Robert D. Slama, M.D., FACC, to its board of directors.
Robert D. Slama, M.D., is former Chief of Cardiology at Summit Medical Group, serving in that role for the past 12 years. He is also a member of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center Consultant Medical Staff.
Since joining SMG in 1980, Dr. Slama has expanded and strengthened cardiology care for his patients. Among his many contributions is the award-winning Coumadin Care Center, designated by Roche Diagnostics as an exemplary Coumadin maintenance facility. Dr. Slama developed a Cardiac Diagnostic Imaging Center, including a digital echocardiology laboratory for which he has been Medical Director. In addition, he was integral in developing a Nuclear Medicine Laboratory for which he has been Radiation Safety Office for the last 6 years. Dr. Slama also implemented a collaborative advanced practice nurse/physician assistant (APN/PA) program that added six associate providers to enhance patient access and cultivate a team approach to cardiac care. He is a vital member of the Group’s Clinical Council and played a key role in acquiring and integrating The Heart Group of Millburn and Bayonne, N.J., into SMG's practice.

The Consumer Research Council of America lists him in "America's Top Cardiologists." He has been an investigator for several studies in cardiology. Dr. Slama practices at the Group’s 1 Diamond Hill Road facility in Berkeley Heights.
