Manhattan's Crimson Restaurant Hosts NYFD Cook-Off Benefiting World Cares Center

Any time we have the opportunity to be involved with both the FDNY and a charity like the World Cares Center, we’re all in

Some of New York’s top culinary talent seared and sautéed for bragging rights and the title of Iron Skillet Champion on October 24th in Manhattan’s Crimson Restaurant. The 10th annual Iron Skillet Cook Off pitted FDNY’s top firehouse chefs against their local restaurant counterparts, with 100 percent of proceeds benefiting World Cares Center, a nonprofit organized after 9/11 that delivers disaster preparedness and response training in the New York Tri-State area, throughout the United States, and abroad.

Robert Pereira, COO of Metronome Hospitality Group, a major sponsor of the cook-off, said he was proud to be a part of such a worthy event. Pereira also owns Crimson Restaurant, the host location for the Iron Skillet Cook Off for six years.

“We were honored to once again host the Iron Skillet Cook Off at our Crimson venue. Any time we have the opportunity to be involved with both the FDNY and a charity like the World Cares Center, we’re all in.”

The 2011 cook-off was different than any previous year, in that it brought together the winners of each of the past 10 competitions for an “all-start” culinary event in celebration and support of a cause dear to the heart of every New Yorker.

The event featured a number of special guests including a number of New York City councilmembers, sports stars Grant Marshall of the New Jersey Devils, William Beatty of the New York Giants and Thomas Huff of the Washington Redskins, and TV/radio personalities Valerie Smaldone (MC), Sukanya Krishnan, Ben Aaron, and Diana Falzone.
