From wheelers and dealers to one time offers, Bill Shaw offers advice for what to look for in a contractor and the types to avoid.

If you’re thinking of home renovations or a bathroom or kitchen-remodeling project, William Shaw & Associates realize many can be wary of the pratfalls. Using his understanding and knowledge of the remodeling industry, Bill Shaw, a two-time award winning Remodeler of the Year, wants to educate women about the problems one may encounter with home remodeling. Here’s a list of remodeling and renovation tips:

  • Make sure your contractor does not underestimate the project.. If a contractor does not have the expertise of submitting a proper bid, costs may rise. If this happens the contractor may charge more or cut corners.

-Avoid contractors who stretch themselves too thin. Some contractors may have too many projects on their plate and not enough workers to follow through. This can lead to long delays and sometimes it leads to shoddy work.

-Check on a contractor’s experience. Just because someone lists kitchen remodeling and bathroom remodeling on his business card and calls himself a contractor doesn’t mean it’s true. Many don’t have the experience and know how to successfully complete a job, on time and to your liking. Do your homework and check references and see examples.

-Avoid “wheelers and dealers.” Many contractors can take your money, but don’t have enough financial responsibility to complete the job. And if they do, they may not be here tomorrow to resolve any future problems with their work.

-Do not accept one time only offers. The bid a contractor offers you should not be a one-time only low price offer. A job proposal should have a reasonable time limit for you to accept the offer.

Bill Shaw and company vice president Shawn Vacek make their clients feel comfortable, ensuring them that the job they sign on for will be completed on schedule and with satisfaction. Bill Shaw has more than a quarter of a century in the Houston remodeling business and has built the company on a foundation of professional courteous service, a commitment to quality and an ethical code of understanding and knowledge.

William Shaw & Associates even offer their clients new 3-D imaging technology that allows one to see a computer rendering of the project before the first hammer strikes. William Shaw & Associates can guide even the most skeptical client through the entire remodeling process with expertise, consideration and comfort.
