Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) November 02, 2011
In time for the quickly approaching holiday social scene, Dr. John Bass, a board certified plastic surgeon in the Phoenix area, will begin offering XEOMIN® (incobotulinumtoxinA), the most recently FDA approved product for the temporary improvement of the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines or "11's" between the eyes lines in adult patients.
XEOMIN®, manufactured by a German manufacturer - Mers Pharmaceuticals, offers an excellent option to BOTOX®. Norma Homco, R.N., B.S.N., explains,
“One way that I see our patients using this XEOMIN® is in a manner similar to how I view skin care products; it’s best to change every 6 months to a year. This is because repetitive use of same product eventually plateaus. Because Botox and XEOMIN® have a very similar chemical composition, the slight difference may have the same rational.”
The approval of XEOMIN® is based on the results of two pivotal U.S. clinical trials in which XEOMIN® significantly improved the appearance of glabellar lines 30 days following the first injection, when compared to placebo. XEOMIN® is the only botulinum toxin currently approved in the U.S. that does not require refrigeration prior to reconstitution, which may simplify distribution.
While XEOMIN® has just been approved for the temporary improvement in the appearance of glabellar lines in the U.S., it has already been approved under the brand name Boucouture in many countries including France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom. Worldwide, more than 84,000 people have already been treated with XEOMIN® injections.
XEOMIN® has no additives, just botulinum toxin type A. This may have the benefit of less risk for developing antibodies against XEOMIN®. The body develops antibodies in response to foreign body attacks. Antibodies could prevent a neurotoxin from delivering the best results.
The full effects of XEOMIN® occur within one week, and the results last from three to six months, comparable to BOTOX® in terms of onset and lasting duration.
XEOMIN® is injected into muscles to decrease their activity. XEOMIN® blocks the release of a chemical called acetylcholine that relays the signal from nerve terminals and causes muscles to contract. Not all muscles are affected by botulinum toxin, so some muscles still contract, just less forcefully.
Everyone is different, but it generally takes about 7 days before most people begin to see improvement. The effect generally lasts up to 12 weeks, but can vary significantly.
Patients prefer injections like Botox or XEOMIN® to superficial cosmetic treatments like chemical peels or microdermabrasion because while these may be useful at fading minor fine lines, botulinum can get to the root of the problem and erase wrinkles for months.
For those looking to regain a face that’s smoother, younger looking and more aesthetically pleasing, XEOMIN® is an excellent option.
