Having SSAE 16 certification is essential for anyone hosting SharePoint or managing mission-critical data on behalf of clients that require the most stringent controls.

AIS Network (, a leading SharePoint hosting provider, today announced the successful completion of its SSAE 16 Type II audit, following an independent accounting firm’s exhaustive review and testing of AISN’s infrastructure as well as its internal controls.

SSAE 16 Type II compliance confirms the integrity, reliability and security of AISN’s infrastructure, processes and operations. An SSAE 16 Type II report includes AISN's description of controls as well as the detailed testing of AISN’s controls over a minimum six-month period. AISN’s audit was conducted by the auditing firm KirkpatrickPrice, LLC, which issued a favorable opinion of the company’s controls as part of its attestation.

“Because customer service and operational excellence are hallmarks of AISN, meeting the higher bar set by the new SSAE 16 standard has been an important goal for us this year,” said AISN CEO Jay Atkinson.

“Increasingly more customers are responding to regulatory mandates to require documented controls, security policies and procedures relating to information technology. We believe that having SSAE 16 certification is essential for anyone hosting SharePoint or managing mission-critical data on behalf of clients that require the most stringent controls."

The Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements No. 16 (SSAE 16) is a new standard created by the Auditing Standards Board of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). The SSAE 16 standard replaces the Statement on Auditing Standards No. 70 (SAS 70) and better aligns with the international audit standard, ISAE 3402.

“AISN has now completed the SSAE 16 Type II audit,“ said Joseph Kirkpatrick, managing partner at KirkpatrickPrice, LLC. “The new standard, which replaced SAS No. 70, is applicable to the services AISN is providing to its clients. The Service Organization Control (SOC) Report we issued will provide assurance on the operating effectiveness of AISN’s controls."

AISN was previously certified as SAS 70 Type II compliant. For the SSAE 16 Type II certification, the company was audited extensively in the following key areas:

  •     Security
  •     Availability
  •     Confidentiality
  •     Processing integrity
  •     Privacy

“AISN clients have known for years that our dedicated hosting experts and support staff are second to none in the industry,” said Atkinson. “We have been SAS 70-compliant for a number of years, and this successful, more stringent audit provides strong third-party validation yet again that AISN maintains the highest level of controls and safeguards.”

With network operations centers in Chicago and the Washington, DC metropolitan area, the 18-year-old AISN is recognized as a pioneer in managed hosting.
