GetListed.org has added a key player, Infogroup, to its existing business listing accuracy platform which includes, among others, major local search engines like Google Places, Bing Maps, and Yelp.
Starting today, U. S. small business owners and search marketers using GetListed.org's free Local Dashboard tool will be able to check the accuracy of their business information at Infogroup, viewed by local search experts as one of the three most important business data aggregators in the U. S.
"Those of us who have been involved with Local Search since the early days know what an important data source Infogroup is for the local search engines," said David Mihm, GetListed.org President and CEO. "By including Infogroup’s Express Update service in our tool, we're making it easier for small business owners to verify their information and to understand how important it is for them to do so."
Business owners who find erroneous information via GetListed.org will be directed to Infogroup's Express Update service (expressupdateusa.com) to verify their information directly at the source. According to Troy Peterson, Director of Local Search for Infogroup, “Express Update helps ensure the accuracy of business listings on top Internet search engines, leading navigation systems and local online directories. By using Express Update, businesses can improve their ranking in local search results, and make sure their prospects and customers can find them.”
Local search engines like Google Places and Bing Maps --in addition to maintaining their own databases of business information--pull in business information from a variety of other sources. While correcting inaccuracies directly at each search engine has always been considered a best practice for small businesses, failing to do so at major data aggregators like Infogroup can lead to identity confusion via duplicate listings, and may even hurt a business's potential to rank in search results.
The goal of GetListed's Local Dashboard tool is for business owners to see immediately whether or not their business is listed properly by local search engines and data aggregators. The tool provides easy links for business owners to claim and update their information directly at each individual search engine, making the process of verifying that information as efficient as possible.
“We really try to put the power in the hands of the business owners and help them make sure the engines provide correct data to people searching for their business,” said Mihm.
Since its launch in January 2009, business owners and search engine marketers have checked local search engine information for over 1,000,000 U. S. businesses using GetListed.org. The company advocates for search engine optimization best practices that will lead to sustained, long-term rankings for small businesses via its blog, online resource center, and ongoing Local University conference series.
