A collection of true stories of heavenly canine companions has been named one of the top 500 books of the year.

Here’s something to wag our tails about. Angelic Tails: True Stories of Heavenly Canine Companions, the latest book by Loyola Press author and New York Times best-seller Joan Wester Anderson, was named a finalist in The USA “Best Books 2011” Awards, sponsored by USA Book News.

Angelic Tails, a collection of 30 true stories from ordinary people who believed God graced their lives through extraordinary canines, was honored as an award-winning finalist in the Animal/Pets category on Nov. 1. The USA “Best Books 2011” contest awarded more than 500 winners and finalists in over 140 categories for print, e-books and audio. USA Book News, a premiere magazine and review website for mainstream and independent publishers, has held the contest for eight years. This year it received an unprecedented number of entries, said Jeffrey Keen, president and CEO of USA Book News.

“I’m thrilled,” Anderson said. “It’s an honor with all the thousands of books published every year to be in the top 500. I’m so proud that Angelic Tails is included, and I think it’s a wonderful opportunity to show more readers how God has provided many special helpers for us in our lifetime, some who might not fit the traditional mold.”

Each of the 30 stories in Angelic Tails challenges readers to reconsider their conception of angels. From a retired Air Force Colonel to a saint from the nineteenth century, Anderson successfully proves that people readily accept muddy paws and cold noses as one way in which God provides comfort, consolation, and protection in people’s lives.

Joan Wester Anderson has been writing and speaking about angels for nearly 20 years. She is the author of the national best seller Where Angels Walk and has written a total of eight books on angels and miracles. Affectionately known as the “Angel Lady,” she is a guest on radio and television talk shows around the country, including on Oprah.
