“Exposing students, particularly those in our healthcare programs, to work as First Responders gives them a front seat to witnessing potential disaster situations early on, in a very realistic setting.”

Anthem Career College-Memphis is pleased to team with the Shelby County Health Department Medical Reserve Corp in its upcoming Disaster Preparedness Drill November 9.
The drill will begin at 7 a.m and last until 4:00 pm. This will be the College’s first time participating in an official Emergency Preparedness Drill with the County, which trains First Responders to manage disasters such as the floods that affected the area earlier this year, as well as triage and treat victims.
Anthem Career College, which provides education and training for students preparing for healthcare careers, is participating as part of its community volunteer efforts. This event also gives students a valuable opportunity to work with professionals in the emergency response field before they enter externships required as part of their College training.
“We see this as a great opportunity for our students to give back and to learn. We are always looking for opportunities for our students to assist community efforts to encourage a sense of volunteerism that stays with them even after they graduate," says Brenda Nash, the campus' president.
“Exposing students, particularly those in our healthcare programs, to work as First Responders gives them a front seat to witnessing potential disaster situations early on, in a very realistic setting” says Pamela Malone, who directs the College’s Career Services department. The college’s graduates have also been notified about the drill as well, Malone says.
Other First Responders will include staff from the Memphis Police and Fire Departments; the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Fire Department, and Emergency Management System; FBI; medical examiners; and the University of Memphis.
