Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) November 04, 2011
Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (TBS, Inc.) and APPNATION Conference have partnered to launch the first-ever “Crank That App” Hackathon to find the web developer who can create the most “cranked-out” app for either the TBS Just For Laughs Chicago festival or the TCM Classic Film Festival. On Monday, Turner is offering talented developers from across the country the opportunity to win $10,000 and the opportunity to have his/her winning submission developed into a Turner app. For more information, please visit http://www.appnationconference.com/atlanta.
Taking place at the inaugural APPNATION Atlanta Conference, the “Crank That App” Hackathon provides developers with a set of basic technical requirements and criteria and encourages them to use any and all tools and applications available to them to create the most compelling app possible.
“The TBS Just For Laughs Chicago festival is one of the nation’s largest and most prestigious comedy events, and the TCM Classic Film Festival is an annual event in Hollywood that is attended by thousands of film fans,” said Jeff Sawyer, vice president, Mobile & Connected Device Solutions for Turner’s Audience and Multi-Platform Technologies group. “We want to offer fans apps that allow attendees to engage with the events on an even deeper level. There’s no better way to tap into new talent than to open this up to the broader developer community, so we’re thrilled that APPNATION Atlanta is giving us the perfect forum in which to do that.”
“We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Turner Broadcasting to give developers an opportunity to show off their creative and technical development skills, especially for such prestigious festivals,” said APPNATION Conference founder and executive producer Drew Ianni. “This unique contest, with a digital development opportunity as part of the grand prize, says a lot about how traditional media companies such as Turner are looking for new creative talent as they look to reach viewers across a variety of emerging platforms and distribution outlets.”
The “Crank That App!” contest is open to any professional or amateur developer legally residing in the United States who is 18 years of age or older (and not a minor in his/her state of residence). Submissions must be in English and must, at a minimum, be compatible for the Apple iOS or Google Android operating systems. Developers can view full Official Rules and submit their entries online via the official contest site.
The Hackathon starts promptly at 8:30 am at the APPNATION Atlanta Conference on Monday, November 7, 2011, and concludes at 4:00 pm. A panel consisting of Turner Broadcasting and APPNATION representatives will judge each entry based on 1) ease of use; 2) user interface and experience; 3) innovation features; and 4) best use of the application technology to elevate and enhance the festival participants’ experience at the festival; with the final decision to be made by Turner Broadcasting.
Turner will announce the winner of the “Crank That App!” contest at the inaugural APPNATION Atlanta Conference in Atlanta. One grand prize winner will be selected, and he/she will receive $10,000 and the opportunity to have his/her winning submission developed into a Turner App.
APPNATION is a thought leadership conference and exposition focusing exclusively on the burgeoning consumer applications revolution and global app economy. The inaugural APPNATION Atlanta event is scheduled for November 7, 2011 at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center in Atlanta. The flagship event, APPNATION Conference will be held November 30-December 1, 2011 at the San Francisco Design Center.
