There are few more traumatic experiences than abuse at the hands of one’s parents. According to the U.S. Government Accountability Office, five children die every day as a result of child abuse. The new biography “Pretense Unveiled” (published by WestBow Press) by Bella Gregor is the true account of the emotional, physical and sexual abuse that eight children endured during the late 1950s through the 1970s, as told through the eyes of the oldest girl, Bella.

Bella’s determination to rescue her six younger siblings from the pedophilia and violence of her parents’ home constantly compelled her. Ever aware of God’s abiding grace, she conquered mountains and valleys but only after stepping boldly into the truth of God’s Word.

Mental and physical abuse plagued the 11-year union of the adult Bella and her husband. The situation worsened with the adoption of a foreign child who got caught in the web.

There were nightmares to face. Would the adopted daughter ever be honest or pure? Would her husband ever grow up? Bella learned the hardest way possible that survival depended on truth rather than pretense.

“The strengths of this book,” the author writes, “are seen in Bella’s uncompromising trust in God. A true overcomer, she let nothing crush her into hopelessness even when circumstances relentlessly made great attempts to destroy her.”
